Story
Get to Know Us
The Infinity Academy is a safe learning environment for ALL students to gain access to grade level content standards through the use of instructional strategies that offer rigor and acceleration to develop confident learners and leaders who excel in their K-5 experience and are well prepared to continue high levels of academic achievement as 6-12 students. We understand that this stage of a child's learning prepares them for the metamorphosis that produces to change agents and the world's future leaders.
Dr. Christopher Holmes, Founder
In his over two-decade career as an educator, Dr. Holmes has had a strong commitment to supporting all students with consideration given to the level of diversity that should exist in classrooms across all educational sectors. These environments should be void of bias, discriminatory, and racist beliefs and practices, but be safe spaces for all students to show up and learn as their authentic selves. In the beginning of his career, it was becoming evident that the values, experiences, and cultures of students were not being reflected in policies and instructional practices used to anchor content. This limited perspective and focus on providing a traditional education created barriers for students, teachers, and leaders. As an undergraduate, Dr. Holmes entered college with an above average GPA and a student resume filled with leadership and service experiences. While college had not been an option for anyone in his immediate family, he felt prepared to excel and be the “unicorn”. To his surprise, he was given a false sense of readiness and would soon realize K-12 education did not provide him with the depth of knowledge required by his professor. His grades were nothing more than a reflection of how teachers respected and cared, but failed to provide a challenging and rigorous learning experience. This is not uncommon.
The Infinity Academy has a strong commitment in valuing equity which means meeting students not only where they are, but also for who they are. Learning spaces are dynamically changing with student populations that not only look, but think, feel, and navigate the world with new and different perspectives. Truly providing opportunities in education must include the beauty and gift to address race, sex, gender, culture, beliefs, and experiences with relevancy and authenticity. Engaging in equity work honors diversity and elevates the quality of the learning for all students who attend The Infinity Academy by allowing for exposure, realistic expectations, an awareness of capacity, a strong sense of self and community, confidence building, self advocacy, and excitement about growth opportunities.
